Danish winters are long and dark just like ours in Grand Marais. This year we are teaming up with local businesses to promote the Dane’s winter remedy: hygge.
Pronounced hoo-gah, it’s a ritual of enjoying the simple and good things in life like companionship, living life well and appreciating it all. It’s the art of embracing coziness by relaxing in front of a fire with a delicious beverage, lighting candles for dinner with friends or diving into your favorite sweater after a long ski in the woods. It can be a time to restore yourself socially and at Voyageur Brewing Company we plan to help you do just that.
Cook County is celebrating hygge from February 9-15th but we’re not just celebrating hygge at Voyageur, we’re celebrating our 2nd Anniversary as well. We have activities planned everyone is sure to enjoy including the Canteen Club Kick-Off party on Thursday when members will be entertained by Tim Haus and enjoy free beer and special appetizers. We’ll also release our Boreal Double IPA and have some mulled craft beer to taste.
On Friday we’re hosting the Hivernant Hustle for those who love to get outdoors in the winter. Participants will enjoy a complimentary Hivernant and a short walk beneath the dark winter sky before returning to a glass of mulled beer.
Saturday morning we invite people to gather around the fireplace to visit and knit from 12-2pm or longer as your sociability and yarn permits. We’ll exchange knitting needles for mukluks or whatever boots will be best for dancing to the music of Plucked Up String Band during the Mukluk Ball.
On Sunday we invite folks to gather for board games in the taproom and a little friendly competition with some favorites like Trouble and Uno. Throughout the weekend there will be plenty of opportunities to raise a glass of craft beer or our version of gløgg to toast our anniversary and hygge. After this celebration of hygge we’ll have no doubt as to why the Danish are some of the happiest people in the world.

- Thursday, February 9th- Canteen Club Kick-Off Everyone is welcome to become a Canteen Club Member. At this kick-off party members will enjoy special infused beers, free appetizers, free beer, music by Tim Haus from 5:30-8:30pm and of course all of the great Canteen Club benefits.
- Friday, February 10th- Hivernant Hustle Gather at Voyageur by 6pm for a free taste of our Hivernant craft brew. Join Head Brewer Jason for a quick walk down to Artist Point for a photo opportunity. Upon your return to Voyageur you’ll receive a taste of our mulled beer & another taste of Hivernant if you’d like.
- Saturday, February 11th- Knitting by the fireside beginning at noon and our Mukluk Ball from 5-9pm.
- Sunday, February 12th- Enjoy popular board games and the chance to compete for prizes. Each board game you win you get a token for a free 9-ounce pour and a card for a poker hand. Everyone who plays a game gets a card for each game played & tries to create the best poker hand. Prizes available.
