Summer Sailing By Voyageur Brewing Company

North House Folk School Grand Marais This summer seems to be sailing by like the Hjørdis in a brisk wind. What is the Hjørdis you ask? The Hjørdis is a 50′ traditionally-rigged steel schooner owned by the famous North House Folk School in Grand Marais that allows visitors to experience our town from a different perspective. Hjørdis is also the name of our newest IPA on tap at Voyageur Brewing Company. It’s as refreshing as a lake breeze with notes of pine and fruit. Made with Simcoe and Amaraillo hops this beer has 30 IBU and 6.9% ABV.
Hjørdis means goddess of war or goddess of sword in Norse mythology.
We’d like to think our Hjørdis IPA is a suitabletribute for a goddess, but that isn’t why we chose the name.
If you gaze out on Lake Superior on a summer day in Grand Marais you just might see the distinctive black sails of the Hjørdis sailboat. If you sign up for a ride on this majestic vessel you’ll see the village of Grand Marais tucked into the Sawtooth Mountains, and you might also notice Voyageur Brewing Company.
Whether she’s sailing or at the dock, it’s in honor of the Hjørdis and our amazing North House Folk School that we christen this beer.
