DESCRIPTION:Voyageur Brewing Company Presents Chris Koza on Saturday\, November 24th from 4-7pm in the taproom. \nChris Koza is a songwriter/musician living and working in Minneapolis\, Minnesota\, where the climate\, the mighty Mississippi River and the balance of city and rural communities offer continued inspiration. \nAs a performer\, Koza and his band Rogue Valley have toured the US\, and also performed in Iceland and the UK\, also supporting nationally renowned artists such as Ingrid Michaelson\, Brandi Carlile\, The Jayhawks\, Stephen Kellogg\, Martha Wainwright\, and Dan Wilson. Koza’s music appears in film and TV shows\, including Fox’s The Secret Life of Walter Mitty\, A&E’s Bates Motel\, ABC’s General Hospital\, and MTV’s Jersey Shore. \nKoza spearheads music-related residencies in communities all across Minnesota\, largely through the support of the Minnesota State Arts Board. These residencies connect musicians\, educators\, students and community members through workshops and performances. Koza and Rogue Valley have completed residencies in several cities\, including Dawson-Boyd\, Grand Rapids\, Detroit Lakes\, International Falls\, and in the Metro area\, at Hopkins and Washburn High Schools. \nSince 2004\, when Koza began performing\, producing and releasing his own music\, he and Rogue Valley have released over a dozen albums firmly rooted in Americana music\, with influences drawing from folk\, acoustic\, classic rock\, and experimental electronic-pop. He has opened for Bob Dylan and has performed original songs twice\, with his pal the late Larry Kegan\, at Neil Young’s Bridge School Benefit Concert (a songwriter showcase put on in San Francisco by Neil for nearly 30\,000 fans to raise money for the Bridge School for Disabled Children). \nGene has played numerous venues throughout the years in the Twin Cities as well as a dozen or more times with renowned violinist Scarlet Rivera. Gene has also performed and traveled with legendary folk musician Ramblin Jack Elliott. \nFormer cowgirl and junk artist Amy Grillo began singing around the campfires and in the bars and music venues of Minnesota’s Iron Range. Her ear for harmony and a good story are what give her songs a unique\, earthy and relatable feel. Her sweet harmonies and lyrical talent are a perfect compliment to Gene’s vocal and guitar picking style.

A voice laced with both smoke and silk\, at turns clear and full of gravel\, Nickolay infuses lyric and melody with a style that unites traditional and past tunes with current music. Her sound comes out of a depth of musical genres; including Traditional Irish\, Appalachian\, Blues\, Folk\, Indie\, Country\, and even and little Rock n’ Roll. Every song she delivers she does so with honest emotion and a contagious passion for the sheer joy of making music. Nickolay is currently playing live in local venues in the Cook County area.
