DESCRIPTION:Lonnie Dupre knows how to explore\, both on and off trail.\nJoin us on June 2nd for a talk from our local Arctic Explorer Lonnie Dupre. He has been busy all winter exploring uncharted territory and he’s coming in to our brewery tell you all about it at 7pm. \nAs a National Trails Day bonus\, tell your beertender your favorite trail in Cook County and get $1 off your pint. Cheers to being outside on the trail! \n \n\nDuring an Arctic career spanning 25 years\, Dupre has traveled more than 15\,000 miles throughout the high Arctic and polar regions by dog team\, ski and kayak.  Many times\, his path followed the footsteps of earlier explorers\, including Robert E. Peary and Matthew Henson\, Roald Amundsen and Knud Rasmussen.  Like them\, Dupre lived and traveled with the Polar Inuit\, learning from these hardy people\, and developing a deep appreciation for their culture and way of life.\n\nDupre has always believed that if a person works hard and believes strongly in its purpose\, it is possible to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles in pursuit of one’s dream.  He also believes that not reaching one’s goals does not mean failure\, and that\, in fact\, success sometimes comes only when one turns back and starts again\, more knowledgeable and more prepared than the time before.\n\nLonnie has completed expeditions including;  Bering Bridge Expedition\, Northwest Passage Expedition\, Lillehammer\, Norway to Murmansk\, Russia\, Banks Island Expedition\, First Circumnavigation of Greenland\, One World Expedition: Summer Expedition to the North Pole\, 2009 Peary Centennial Expedition to the North Pole\, and most recently during January (2015) when he completed his 2011–2015 Polar Climb 1 expedition.  He solo climbed Denali a.k.a. Mount Mckinley\, becoming the first person to solo-climb Denali in January.\n\n\n\nWith winter winds regularly exceeding 100 miles per hour\, temperatures dropping below -60º F\, and just six hours of sunlight each day\, January is a formidable time on Denali\, whose elevation of 20\,320 feet makes it North America’s highest mountain.  Dupre reached the summit at 2:00p.m. (AKST) on January 11th\, 2015.\n\n\nOnly nine expeditions\, totaling 16 people\, have ever reached the Denali summit in winter\, and six deaths occurred during those climbs.  Of these previous winter expeditions\, four were solo\, but none was in January\, the darkest and coldest time of the year on the mountain.\n\nLonnie will give a multi-media presentation on his winter solo Denali climb.  Immediately following the presentation Lonnie will be signing his new book Alone at the Top – Climbing Denali in the Dead of Winter\, published by Minnesota Historical Society Press.

DESCRIPTION:Come Voyage North with us.\nVoyageur Brewing Company invites you to Voyage North this June 9th to participate in a run around Grand Marais\, MN. Participants will enjoy the scenic beauty of Lake Superior and the surrounding Sawtooth Mountains. There will be a 5k and 10k race both beginning in downtown Grand Marais and ending at Voyageur Brewing Company. \nThe race begins in the parking lot of the Coast Guard Station located at the end of Broadway Road. Runners will take a course of either 5k or 10k through the streets of Grand Marais\, Minnesota. There will be two aide stations along the 10k route and the route will be well marked. The race finish will be at Voyageur Brewing Company located at 233 West Highway 61 in Grand Marais\, MN. Participants will receive a t-shirt and enjoy a free pint of beer after the race. \nThe cost of the race if registered by May 9th is $30 for the 5k and $35 for the 10k. After May 9th the 5k price is $35 and the 10k price is $40. \nRegister here.

The journey continues in exploration and presentation of original jazz compositions written by both guitarists Sam Miltich and Briand Morrison. Their guitar styles\, though different\, blend perfectly\, combining emotions both fierce and driving\, as well as gentle and contemplative as they weave their way through scales and rhythms of gypsy swing and traditional jazz stylings. Having been influenced by Django Reinhardt\, Joe Pass\, Wes Montgomery\, and Lenny Breau\, both guitarists have deep roots and grounding in the musicians that came before them.

We’ll be open an hour later than normal on Thursday\, June 21st & we’re offering 1/2 price pints of our flagship beers from 9-10pm. \nPerformer and songmaker\, Kyle Ollah\, will also be playing music on the rooftop from 5-8pm (weather permitting). He is a multi-instrumentalist folk musician based out of Duluth\, Minnesota. Hear him solo or alongside an array of good friends.\n\nKyle sits in with Charlie Parr from time-to-time\, and also had the good fortune of recording fiddle and banjo on Parr’s 2016 Red House Records release\, “I Ain’t Dead Yet”. You can also hear him performing old standbys from the 1920’s-30’s with MPLS musician\, Mumblin’ Drew\, or fiddling for dances in old barns and out-halls across the Upper-Midwest with Merila Hill String Band and Four Mile Portage.

DESCRIPTION:Learn more about our favorite trail!\nAs part of our June “Get Outdoors Month”\, we are dedicating June 27th to the Superior Hiking Trail\, our favorite 300 mile trail that passes right through our backyard. This event will feature a group educational hike\, a specialty beer for the Superior Hiking Trail Association\, and a presentation about the changes coming to the Cook County sections of the trail. The proceeds from our specialty beer will go towards trail maintenance as well as $1 from every other pint sold this day. Grab a beer and check out the schedule below! \n2:00pm – “A Tale of Two Bridges and the Tales They Tell about Caring for the Superior Hiking Trail” informational guided hike. Meet at the Kadunce River wayside on Highway 61 east of Grand Marais. \n5:00-9:00pm – SHT representatives at the brewery to answer questions and chat. They will have maps\, trail guides\, and lists of Voyageur Brewing beer and hike pairings. \n6:00pm – Presentation and conversation in the back brewery about the trail maintenance coming to Cook County.

DESCRIPTION:Enjoy live music\, cold craft beer\, and tasty appetizers at Voyageur Brewing Company in Grand Marais\, Minnesota.\nGene and Amy have been writing and performing together since 2012 and moved to the North Shore of Lake Superior in August of 2014 Their emphasis is on acoustic style duet performances of their original songs as well as unique renditions of some of their favorite artists from Dylan to dirt old country. \nGene LaFond has been writing and performing for over 50 years. He has opened for Bob Dylan and has performed original songs twice\, with his pal the late Larry Kegan\, at Neil Young’s Bridge School Benefit Concert (a songwriter showcase put on in San Francisco by Neil for nearly 30\,000 fans to raise money for the Bridge School for Disabled Children). \nGene has played numerous venues throughout the years in the Twin Cities as well as a dozen or more times with renowned violinist Scarlet Rivera. Gene has also performed and traveled with legendary folk musician Ramblin Jack Elliott. \nFormer cowgirl and junk artist Amy Grillo began singing around the campfires and in the bars and music venues of Minnesota’s Iron Range. Her ear for harmony and a good story are what give her songs a unique\, earthy and relatable feel. Her sweet harmonies and lyrical talent are a perfect compliment to Gene’s vocal and guitar picking style.

He is also a Central Minnesota Arts Board McKnight Foundation Artist Career Development Grant Winner. \nDave was invited back to entertain for the Library of Congress in February 2017\, this time alongside Billy Bragg\, Si Kahn and Terra (Gordon) Lightfoot. \nDave typically plays 200+ shows per year and has entertained at a wide variety of venues across the world.
