DESCRIPTION:Enjoy live music\, cold craft beer\, and tasty appetizers at Voyageur Brewing Company in Grand Marais\, Minnesota.\nGene and Amy have been writing and performing together since 2012 and moved to the North Shore of Lake Superior in August of 2014 Their emphasis is on acoustic style duet performances of their original songs as well as unique renditions of some of their favorite artists from Dylan to dirt old country. \nGene LaFond has been writing and performing for over 50 years. He has opened for Bob Dylan and has performed original songs twice\, with his pal the late Larry Kegan\, at Neil Young’s Bridge School Benefit Concert (a songwriter showcase put on in San Francisco by Neil for nearly 30\,000 fans to raise money for the Bridge School for Disabled Children). \nGene has played numerous venues throughout the years in the Twin Cities as well as a dozen or more times with renowned violinist Scarlet Rivera. Gene has also performed and traveled with legendary folk musician Ramblin Jack Elliott. \nFormer cowgirl and junk artist Amy Grillo began singing around the campfires and in the bars and music venues of Minnesota’s Iron Range. Her ear for harmony and a good story are what give her songs a unique\, earthy and relatable feel. Her sweet harmonies and lyrical talent are a perfect compliment to Gene’s vocal and guitar picking style.

This is an informal gathering of folks who want to get some exercise and get outside on Thanksgiving Day. This fun run of either a 5k or 10k or anything in between will begin at the east end of Cascade Beach Road at 9am. Participants will receive a token for a 9 ounce craft beer at Voyageur Brewing Company. \nIn the spirit of Thanksgiving participants are asked to give a monetary donation for the Cook County Food Shelf. \nThe road will not be closed and may be icy. Participants are responsible for their own safety. The event will not be timed and there will not be mile markers\, awards or aid stations.

Koza’s music appears in film and TV shows\, including Fox’s The Secret Life of Walter Mitty\, A&E’s Bates Motel\, ABC’s General Hospital\, and MTV’s Jersey Shore. \nKoza spearheads music-related residencies in communities all across Minnesota\, largely through the support of the Minnesota State Arts Board. These residencies connect musicians\, educators\, students and community members through workshops and performances. Koza and Rogue Valley have completed residencies in several cities\, including Dawson-Boyd\, Grand Rapids\, Detroit Lakes\, International Falls\, and in the Metro area\, at Hopkins and Washburn High Schools. \nSince 2004\, when Koza began performing\, producing and releasing his own music\, he and Rogue Valley have released over a dozen albums firmly rooted in Americana music\, with influences drawing from folk\, acoustic\, classic rock\, and experimental electronic-pop. Before becoming a solo artist in her own right\, Nickolay performed around Northern Minnesota in various bands with family and friends. After a spending two years in Northern Ireland she has returned to her North Shore roots to continue writing and performing her music. A voice laced with both smoke and silk\, at turns clear and full of gravel\, Nickolay infuses lyric and melody with a style that unites traditional and past tunes with current music. Her sound comes out of a depth of musical genres; including Traditional Irish\, Appalachian\, Blues\, Folk\, Indie\, Country\, and even and little Rock n’ Roll. Every song she delivers she does so with honest emotion and a contagious passion for the sheer joy of making music. Nickolay is currently playing live in local venues in the Cook County area.
