DESCRIPTION:Enjoy craft beer and live music at Voyageur Brewing Company in Grand Marais\, Minnesota.\nData Dere Jazz is Fred Anderson\, guitar\, Dave MacLean\, drum kit\, Martha Marnocha\, piano\, Bob LaMettry\, percussion\, John Praxmarer\, bass\, and Don Grant\, trumpet.  The band plays a mix of jazz standards in Latin\, Swing and Bebop styles.  Fred\, Dave\, Martha and Don are also members of the North Shore Community Swing Band. \nFred Anderson has played guitar with many Minnesota groups including The Channel Cats Blues / Jazz Band and The CutAways Jazz Quartet. \nDave MacLean started playing drums at an early age and later played in a high school dance band and combo. In graduate school at Purdue\, he played with a Dixieland group\, the Salty Dogs.  Dave continued his interest in jazz and big band drumming throughout his career as a Professor of Biology at Youngstown State University. \nMartha Marnocha grew up playing viola and piano in a classical music setting. \nBob LaMettry started playing percussion with a hand drum group shortly after moving to Grand Marais. A bit later a drum workshop was held at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts featuring a Latin percussionist who played the cajon.  Bob was impressed with the sound and purchased his own cajon online. Most players use their hands on the face plate of the cajon.  Bob typically uses an array of brushes\, some with shakers\, to add a little variety. \nJohn Praxmarer learned to play the electric bass in high school and hasn’t gone very far since then. He really wanted to be in a death-metal band but had to settle for jazz. \nDon Grant began playing trumpet at an early age and has played with many jazz combos.

You’ll find him hidden in the liner notes of Tupac Shakur\, The Dog Pound\, Exhibit\, Nate Dogg\, Rob Wasserman\, Perry Ferrell\, and Banyan. But Willie’s strength\, aside from his trumpet\, lies in his amazing collaborations — live performances that are as legendary as they are ephemeral. Early on at Memphis State University\, he met jazz legends Herman Green\, Calvin Newborn\, and Jimmie Ellis. Playing five plus nights a week on Beale Street with Herman Green & The Green Machine led to FreeWorld\, a rock-fusion band with Willie and Herman\, described by Green as\, “new meets old school.” Having met and recorded with Perry Ferrell of Jane’s Addiction\, he also met Stephen Perkins. Together they created Banyan’s second album\, Anytime At All. Banyan tours today with Waldman\, Perkins\, Nels Cline of Wilco\, and Mike Watt (Iggy and The Stooges). In 2000\, Willie released his first solo album under the Willie Waldman Project moniker\, an evolving free jazz project direct from the mind of Waldman.

DESCRIPTION:Enjoy craft beer and live music at Voyageur Brewing Company in Grand Marais\, Minnesota.\n\nGene and Amy have been writing and performing together since 2012 and moved to the North Shore of Lake Superior in August of 2014 Their emphasis is on acoustic style duet performances of their original songs as well as unique renditions of some of their favorite artists from Dylan to dirt old country. \nGene LaFond has been writing and performing for over 50 years.\nHe has opened for Bob Dylan and has performed original songs twice\, with his pal the late Larry Kegan\, at Neil Young’s Bridge School Benefit Concert (a songwriter showcase put on in San Francisco by Neil for nearly 30\,000 fans to raise money for the Bridge School for Disabled Children).\nGene has played numerous venues throughout the years in the Twin Cities as well as a dozen or more times with renowned violinist Scarlet Rivera. Gene has also performed and traveled with legendary folk musician Ramblin Jack Elliott. \nFormer cowgirl and junk artist Amy Grillo began singing around the campfires and in the bars and music venues of Minnesota’s Iron Range. Her ear for harmony and a good story are what give her songs a unique\, earthy and relatable feel. Her sweet harmonies and lyrical talent are a perfect compliment to Gene’s vocal and guitar picking style.
