Our resident adventurer Lonnie Dupre has sought cold for over thirty years. Alaska\, Russia\, Canada\, Greenland and the North Pole have all been hosts to his Arctic pursuits. This year marked his first attempt at a solo climb of Hunter Mountain in Denali\, Alaska. Narrowly escaping death by using his ice axe to arrest his fall into a crevasse\, he survived but didn’t reach the summit. He named his solo expedition Cold Hunter One for his first attempt of summiting Mount Hunter in the winter.  High wind\, deep snow and extreme cold are not things the average person seeks. This beer meets that stubborn lust for adventure in pursuit of new discoveries and a comforting reward at the end of your journey. We hope this beer brings you every bit of satisfaction and contentment that the top of a cold mountain brings Lonnie. \n

DESCRIPTION:Voyageur Brewing Company is celebrating Owls on Saturday\, March 4th\nOur Boreal Double IPA bottles have a wonderful drawing of a Boreal Owl on them.  Whoo drew that magnificent owl?  Our resident artist and beertender\, Cynthi Burton\, that’s whoo. You can read more about Cynthi below but first read about what is happening on Saturday\, March 4th at Voyageur Brewing Company in Grand Marais\, MN. \nBeep the Saw-What Owl\nHunter and Beep from Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center  will be visiting us from 1:30pm-3pm.  Hunter is a great horned owl and Beep is a saw-whet owl and they will accompany Wildlife Director Erin Waldorf.  She’ll present information about owls and will have owl artifacts and pellets on hand. It’s an awesome opportunity to get an up close and personal view of some amazing creatures. \nWe love Cynthi’s owl design so much we thought we should have a coloring contest.  Cynthi adapted the artwork so we can all enjoy creating our own unique boreal owl. Feel free to bring in your own pens\, colors or pencils and do your best work.  For those who want to enter their picture into the coloring contest we’ll be judging at 3pm. You are welcome to color after that as well. \nIn addition\, if you have any of your own owl artwork to share then please feel free to bring it for display in the brewery from 12-3pm. We’d love to see your photos\, carvings or other owlish creations. We hope you will join us so we can have some fun owltogether. \nArtwork by Cynthia Burton\nCynthi is also responsible for the witty and playful chalkboard drawings\, and some mesmerizing playlists on our sound system. \nCynthi grew up on Greenwood Lake\, and was an only child for a long time. In her many quiet hours of solitude she would make use of the art supplies her mom gave her\, and draw nature scenes and designs for hours\, which spilled over into her notebooks at school. She describes her style as hyper-realistic and keeps a notebook and art supplies in her car. She uses all mediums\, but favors pencil and watercolor\, and is inspired by Instagram artists such as Jeff Niesen\, and National Geographic. She’s designed many tattoos for other people as well as herself. Her artwork isn’t available anywhere else at the moment\, but we hope that changes soon. \nCynthi’s favorite beer was our Moonshadow Mocha Stout\, but since that’s no longer available she contents herself with Palisade Porter on nitro. \n

We hope you’ll join us for some food\, entertainment\, beer and fun. \nSkyVault’s youthful ensemble tells a Two Gentlemen of Verona-ish tale. \nIn “On the Road to Verona”\, a group of musically inclined (very) young players set out to prove that you don’t need middle-aged actors pretending to be teenagers to portray Shakespeare’s comic romances. DESCRIPTION:Some of you may remember back in November when there was some filming going on in the brewery. It was Dogsnose Media from Duluth\, MN with their production team visiting Grand Marais to shoot footage for their pilot program about the culture of craft beer. \nThey have created a program from the view of a traditional British Ale Conner- an explorer of all things beer. In each episode the Ale Conner(from England) learns about American culture by way of small breweries. While he primarily focuses on the craft brewery he also takes time to explore the community the brewery is located in. \nWhile he was in Grand Marais he met up with the Mayor of Grand Marais for a dip into Lake Superior\, made a visit to the local fish market for a crash course on commercial fishing\, bartered with locals at a swap meet and even participated in a “donut challenge”…all the while meeting and having fun with the lovely townsfolk of Grand Marais. \nEach episode will find the Ale Conner learning about local American culture by way of small breweries\, while teaching his new friends some bits about British culture along the way. \nThe pilot show is ready to be previewed and Voyageur Brewing Company is happy to host the premiere showing on Thursday\, March 30th. With a little luck the show will be picked up by a network and shown on television for the whole world to see. Even across the pond in England.

DESCRIPTION:Enjoy craft beer and live music at Voyageur Brewing Company in Grand Marais\, Minnesota.\n\nGene and Amy have been writing and performing together since 2012 and moved to the North Shore of Lake Superior in August of 2014 Their emphasis is on acoustic style duet performances of their original songs as well as unique renditions of some of their favorite artists from Dylan to dirt old country. \nGene LaFond has been writing and performing for over 50 years.\nHe has opened for Bob Dylan and has performed original songs twice\, with his pal the late Larry Kegan\, at Neil Young’s Bridge School Benefit Concert (a songwriter showcase put on in San Francisco by Neil for nearly 30\,000 fans to raise money for the Bridge School for Disabled Children).\nGene has played numerous venues throughout the years in the Twin Cities as well as a dozen or more times with renowned violinist Scarlet Rivera. Gene has also performed and traveled with legendary folk musician Ramblin Jack Elliott. \nFormer cowgirl and junk artist Amy Grillo began singing around the campfires and in the bars and music venues of Minnesota’s Iron Range. Her ear for harmony and a good story are what give her songs a unique\, earthy and relatable feel. Her sweet harmonies and lyrical talent are a perfect compliment to Gene’s vocal and guitar picking style.
