Live Music at Voyageur Brewing Company

August 16, 2015 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Music in Grand Marais, MN

Performing at Voyageur Brewing Company on Sunday, August 15th from 3-5pm is Dan Hagemann.

Illinois-born and Nashville-based singer/songwriter Dan Hagemann’s style was being influenced long before he had any choice in what music he listened to.
“My mom would turn the radio on to some contemporary/pop station when she would put me down for naps when I was just a little guy.  It was the early 80s so there was a lot of John Denver, Jim Croce, Willie Nelson, Dan Fogelberg, Gordon Lightfoot…some of the greatest singer/songwriters of the modern music era.  I’m not sure she could’ve chosen better teachers if she would’ve known back then that I wanted to go into music.  My memories of those songs are in a foundational part of my mind.”
In his teens, his older brothers and friends introduced him to the other significant influence on his songwriting style: the rock bands of the late 80s and early 90s.
“Tesla, Guns ‘N’ Roses, Blind Melon and others taught me about the power that a song can have on a listener.  My goal has always been to write a song that gives reassurance to a broken heart like Tesla’s “Love Song,” or gives hope to a frustrated soul like Blind Melon’s “Change.”  The best way I’ve come up with to describe my approach is visceral storytelling.  I want the listener to feel the story.  I love it when I hear other songwriters’ tunes that just grab my heart and squeeze.  I want to write songs that do that.”
Dan released his second album, an EP titled, “Life-Support Lullabies,” last September.  His music and other information are available on his website, www.danhagemann.com.
